Transcendence at the Royal Academy of Arts
For the Royal Academy of Arts’ Late event, ‘Transcendence’, _REMIX will present a reworking of their baroque drag performance, After Violence.
Using baroque composer John Dowland’s songs as a starting point and drawing inspiration from Michelangelo’s love sonnets to the beautiful youth Tommaso dei Cavalieri, an Italian nobleman and the object of Michelangelo’s affection, After Violence will be performed against the backdrop of the RA’s extraordinary Renaissance paintings. Combining theatre, drag and song, After Violence will be performed by vocalist Ella Taylor, drag queen Rhys’s Pieces, musician Benjamin Tassie and lute player Sam Brown.
Augmented for ‘Transcendence’ at the Royal Academy of Arts, After Violence will include vocal and drag performances alongside analogue-synth sound art presented in multi-speaker, surround sound.
‘Transcendence’ will take place on Saturday, 30th March, 7-1145pm.
